Bob has 20 years experience in the life sciences and technology sectors and has invested in private and public healthcare companies since 2005.
Prior to founding Lucena Capital, Bob was a Managing Partner at Majalin LLC, the healthcare investment arm of Amzak Capital Management. Majalin managed $200 million of committed capital and invested in private and public companies across the healthcare sector. Previously, Bob was a Partner at Care Capital, a life sciences venture capital fund with $500 million under management. His investments have included CoLucid (acquired by Eli Lilly for $960 million), Minerva (Nasdaq: NERV) and CDC IV (a healthcare royalty vehicle).
Before Bob became a professional investor in 2005, he was a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group where he focused on the healthcare sector. Bob also co-founded and was President of the technology company Trenza Corp. He serves or has served on the Boards of several healthcare companies, and has lectured about the healthcare industry at Wharton, Rutgers and multiple industry conferences.
Prior to his business career, Bob was an accomplished chess player, winning five US National titles for his age group and earning the title of Life National Master. Bob holds a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University, a Masters of Biotechnology from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from The Wharton School, where he was a Palmer Scholar.
